For more information visit Fieldbus.org.

The Fieldbus Foundation has selected the 2014 recipients of the James O. Gray Scholarship Fund. The program honors the memory of James (Jim) O. Gray, a long-time leader in the Fieldbus Foundation who passed away in 2002, and maintains a perpetual $250,000 endowment fund providing scholarships to students seeking a career in the industrial automation profession.

Since 2003, the James O. Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship program has funded 32 educational scholarships for students around the world. According to Fieldbus Foundation President Rich Timoney, "We are pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Jim Gray scholarship. These outstanding students have really distinguished themselves in their pursuit of fieldbus knowledge. The Fieldbus Foundation has always stood behind the concept that the right training is the key to the future of process automation."

The 2014 scholarship recipients include:

  • Cody Bijou, Fieldbus Center at Lee College, Baytown, Texas USA: In his second year at Lee College, Cody Bijou is majoring in instrumentation and communications with a minor in instrumentation & electrical design. He is set to graduate in Winter 2014 and plans to use this education to pursue a career in either instrumentation design or sales engineering. Outside of his studies and participation in the Lee College Debate Team and student government, Cody assists his parents in taking care of his disabled grandmother, volunteers to Keep Baytown Beautiful, and practices his cooking skills.
  • Chayut Buranabunwong, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Bangkok, Thailand: Chayut Buranabunwong is in his third year at KMITL, studying automation engineering in the Instrumentation and Control Department. His interest in FOUNDATION technology began at an "Experience FOUNDATION Fieldbus" seminar in 2012, and grew as he realized that the technology could one day be widely accepted in Thailand's process industry. Chayut's decision to pursue this course of study was influenced by the field being new to Thailand and as such the number of experts is still limited.
  • Shinta Cho, Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan: Shinta Cho is a first-year master course student in the applied mechanics department, graduate schools of fundamental science and engineering, at Waseda University. His study and research efforts included development of a field device and process diagnosis on Coriolis mass flowmeters. Shinta wants to contribute to the promotion and growth of the automation industry in Japan through his studies.
Jim Gray was employed by Invensys/Foxboro for 25 years as sales and marketing manager. In addition to being very active within the Fieldbus Foundation from its inception, he held the positions of: secretary of the Board of Directors, member of the Executive Committee, and member of the U.S. Marketing Committee.
