Elon Musk Wants Long-Distance Travel to Suck

But, Elon, you say, it already does. Not so fast. What about getting from New York to LA in 45 minutes? Or to China in two hours? Not so bad? What about putting yourself in a vacuum tube traveling at up to 4000 mph to get it done? Hm-m-m-m.

Elon Musk, co-founder of Tesla Motors and PayPal, has another idea—hyperloop travel. It’s based on the same principle as the vacuum tubes that back in the stone age, banks used to suck your deposits from the drive-up window to the inside of the building. (And if you’re old enough, you might remember that department stores would send messages and small parcels from one floor to another in similar tubes.)

Musk describes the hyperloop as "a cross between a Concorde, a railgun and an air hockey table."  Well, okay then, that makes it all clear.
