Technical Directory Looms as Industrial Standard

May 6, 2004
The Electronic Commerce Code Management Association (ECCMA) has written the ECCMA Open Technical Dictionary (eOTD) that it hopes will become an industrial standard. It recently won acceptance by the ISO Technical Committee 183, Subcommitte 4, one step on the road to legitimacy.

The dictionary contains 60,000 standard item names and 30,000 standard attribute names, with definitions, multilingual translations, and classification tables.

We accomplished our primary goal, said Peter Benson, chief technical officer of ECCMA. That was to position eOTD at the core of the organization that establishes and manages data standards for the world.
