Xybernaut Granted U.S. Patent for Wearable Computer System

War Fighters, First Responders, Technicians and Mechanics to Benefit from Hands-free Access to Computing and Communication

Xybernaut Corp. of Fairfax, VA, has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) related to a wearable computing system integrated into the collar of a garment. The "Wearable Computer System" can be worn around the neck and would include component(s), such as a display, monitor, microphone or audio headset.

Under the protected patent, the computer components can be extended beyond the confines of the collar and are adjustable around the user’s face. When the components are not in use, they can be retracted back inside the collar and out of the way and/or protected by the collar.

"For the war fighter and first responder the ability to gain access to computing and communication capabilities in a hands-free manner is essential,” said Steven A. Newman, president and COO of Xybernaut. “For the field service technician, mechanic, and many others, it is simply the most efficient way they can do their jobs."

Xybernaut provides wearable/mobile computing hardware, software and services, communications devices, and full-function computing power in a hands-free design to people when and where they need it.
