Arbin awarded patent for dew point humidifier and related gas temperature control technology

ARBIN INSTRUMENTS, a manufacturer of testing instrumentation for energy storage and energy conversion devices, has been granted U.S. patent number 6,863,268 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent is issued for a method and a system for humidifying gas reactants for fuel cells or other gases, and related temperature control and tracing of the humidified gas. It is a continuation of the previously awarded U.S. patent number 6,715,743.
The patented invention represents the fundamental component of Arbin fuel cell testing instrumentation, specifically for the testing of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells. It addresses the issue of proper humidification and temperature control of the fuel cell gaseous reactants to achieve optimal fuel cell performance. The dew point humidifier (DPH) and its related gas temperature control provide precise humidity control over wide dynamic temperature and flow rate ranges in an energy-efficient compact structure.
The technology was developed and patented by Dr. John Zhang, chief engineer and president of Arbin Instruments. This marks the seventh patent awarded to Dr. Zhang in the field of energy storage/conversion testing instrumentation in the last twelve years.
