OPC Conference 2005 speakers announced

MatrikonOPC, a provider of OPC technology, is hosting an international conference focused on industrial connectivity, October 16-18 at the JW Marriott in Houston's Galleria area. The conference's theme "Transforming Industrial Connectivity" will be attended by ndustrial end-users, technology vendors, and system integrators. Over 40 speakers are scheduled including:

 

Thomas Burke, President, OPC Foundation:
OPC has succeeded in its goal of creating an standards-based connectivity solution that has improved the way enterprises collect and use process data. Due to wide spread adoption, OPC is moving into more areas and the current standard is being pushed by vendors and end-users alike. OPC United Architecture represents the next step in OPC and promises to solve many of the problems that OPC faces today.

Francisco Sandoval, Process Management, Emerson:
Using an OPC Server, AMS Software and a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, maintenance improvements have been made that almost completely eliminate shutdown time. AMS is instrumentation and configuration software that monitors devices alarms. Through OPC these alarms are sent to a technician, who can act on them before they become critical or cause large upsets. The investment for this particular project was recovered in less than 2 months.

Randall Wofford, Chief Data Center Engineer, Oracle:
The ability to monitor, trend, analyze, and alarm accurately across multiple systems are the strengths of interaction to a mission critical facility. OPC enables users to customize information to an individual and/or group needs from their workstations. Forecasting growth, usage, and savings provides a real-time modeling for contingency planning.

Dr. Arne Manthey, Senior Consultant SCM Operations, SAP Deutschland:
One of the major challenges in business applications is the reliable real, or, near-time capture of process data. The quality of many high-level and decision-relevant key performance indicators depends on this. SAP offers a standard OPC interface for data access and alarms & events. Other standard functionality like SAP manufacturing for process industries (PP-PI) makes use of this interface allowing a simple implementation. The following scenarios will be shown in the presentation: Weighing system and integration with a process control system using SAP and OPC.
