“Participants can choose from a 16-hour overview for managers, supervisors and team members who play supporting roles on an SIS project, or a 32-hour in-depth course for professionals responsible for specifying and implementing SIS,” says Pat Garland of Emerson’s Educational Services. “Both courses provide fundamentals and practical tips for SIS planning, selection and implementation and include access to Emerson SIS experts. In addition, each course is modular and each module is automatically archived as completed, making it easy for the student to study on their schedule.”
The new user-friendly courses offer detailed information on SIS terminology and the safety lifecycle, risk and probability, process hazard analysis, risk analysis, safety integrity level (SIL) determination, reliability engineering, safety requirement specification (SRS) and SIS design, and start-up and operation. SIS classroom courses also are available. Classroom courses include small group hands-on sessions, one-on-one time with instructors, and the opportunity to interact with customers in the same line of business with the same interests and questions.
“Emerson offers over 300 courses a year at regional training centers, factory workshops, online, and in locally delivered or on-site classes,” says Garland. “We are committed to providing quality training for our customers—so they can better engineer, operate, maintain, and manage the industrial process and achieve peak plant and process performance.”
Emerson also offers a free introduction to the basics of Safety Instrumented Systems, as well as courses on a broad range of other process-management topics, in their online PlantWeb University Learning Center.
