DCS vendors queue up for security validation

Vancouver-based Wurldtech Security Technologies is fast becoming the de facto official determinant of all matters cybersecurity related, leaving one to wonder why the ISA 99 committee doesn’t save itself a lot of trouble and hand over the whole issue. Within a matter of a couple of days last month came announcements of the award by Wurldtech of Achilles Level 1 Cyber-Security Certification for Honeywell’s Experion PKS C300 Controller and of the selection by Emerson’s Power & Water Solution division of the Achilles Satellite Security Assurance Platform to verify the robustness of the Ovation DCS.
Real-world conditions
Achilles was developed specifically to address the cybersecurity challenges facing the industrial automation industry and has been widely adopted by users, integrators and vendors to diagnose known and unknown vulnerabilities in SCADA and process control systems. The Achilles Certification Program tests control process resilience and robustness under real-world conditions and validates that operational integrity is not jeopardized. The resultant Achilles-Certified designation provides vendors with independent verification of the resiliency of Ethernet-enabled control systems. “Global process automation vendors are continually looking for solutions to improve the security posture of their products and are rapidly adopting expert cybersecurity testing as a crucial component of the development life cycle,” said Wurldtech president and CEO Tyler Williams.
