Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) is claiming to be the first manufacturer to offer both security and safety certification courses for the process industries under the umbrella of the TÜV Functional Safety Program. Partnering with TÜV Rheinland, Honeywell will offer the TÜV Security Professional Manager certification course, enabling plant security professionals to gain a better understanding of best practices in making plants more secure against evolving threats ranging from natural disasters to terrorism. The company plans to offer the new program as part of the safety courses it provides through the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program, which have already trained and certified more than 1,500 people in functional safety. Honeywell is the first manufacturer to offer both security and safety certification courses for the process industries under the umbrella of the TÜV Functional Safety Program. The three-day course covers such topics as the need for security; terrorism and terrorist intent; the global security environment; principles of protection; business value of security; legislation and regulation; and measuring the effectiveness of security systems. Participants, who may include plant security managers, HSE professionals and human resources leaders who work with security and process operators will, on completion, be better able to assess plant security needs and identify elements of an integrated security solution, as well as having gained a better understanding of threat and risk assessment, technology development, design and selection and evolving trends in safety and security.
