Perfomix and Dow work on new MES interface
05/08/2009
Houston, Texas, May 8, 2009 –Performix Inc., a provider of manufacturing execution, recipe management and batch solutions for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, today announced the Performix xMES Next Generation User Interface (UI) for plant-floor operator execution. The Performix xMES Next Generation UI is designed with Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology and the flexibility to integrate data from existing business systems, plant floor devices and the Performix xMES solution.
Performix also announced today its plans for SAPPHIRE 2009 in Orlando, which includes the sponsorship of the SAP Process Industry booth, a joint presentation on Thursday with Dow Corning on “Leveraging SAP Solutions for Next-Generation Manufacturing at Dow Corning” and a demonstration of the Performix xMES Solution, including the new UI, in the Performix Booth #541.
A global leader in silicones and high purity silicon metal technology, Dow Corning was tasked with the challenge of identifying a standard architecture to move its global manufacturing sites from manual, paper-based run sheet systems to an automated end-to-end execution and run sheet life-cycle system. After evaluating different options, Dow Corning chose Performix’s xMES solution and worked closely with Performix through the Next Generation UI development process.
“We had a set of defined goals when we were looking for an MES solution that would get us to the next generation for manufacturing. It had to be much more than just paper on glass, with an unprecedented level of integration across traditional boundaries,” said Keith Carey, manufacturing operations automation manager for Dow Corning. “We knew we had to get the user interface right. Our key focus was to implement a compelling UI that would provide our operators real-time access to key information during the manufacturing execution process providing the business visibility needed to make better business decisions -- connecting the enterprise to the plant floor. By deploying the Performix xMES Next Generation UI, we are able to better safeguard our employees, increase operational excellence and productivity performance metrics within our supply chains.”
By leveraging the company’s partnership with Adobe, Performix provides the xMES Next Generation UI using the Adobe Air platform. Now manufacturers can deploy the solution quickly on existing wireless handheld devices or on an operator’s computer at the plant in a fraction of the time it takes with existing MES solutions.
Designed by operators for operators, the xMES Next Generation UI provides manufacturers a more efficient process to viewing and executing electronic work instructions while allowing users quick access to critical information based on different views provided.
“We see the Performix xMES solution as a game changer for batch manufacturing,” said Sham Afzalpurkar, president and chief executive officer of Performix. “The xMES Next Generation UI is allowing operators to focus on key tasks with access to valuable information throughout the manufacturing process in a whole new way. They can download a production order, materials and resources, recipes and equipment from SAP ensuring SAP as a ‘single version of the truth’ for manufacturing visibility and control as well as integrate seamlessly with the plant floor to drive operational excellence.”
