Control has once again been named one of the 10 Best Magazines for 2010 by the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE). This is the second time in the last three years the magazine made the Top 10 list. The magazine also took home four other awards.
Controlglobal.com won a second national award—the bronze for best e-newsletter. In the midwest technical article contest, executive editor, Jim Montague won the gold award for his September 2010 cover story, "Simulation Breaks Out," (www.controlglobal.com/articles/2010/Simulation1009.html). The bi-monthly column, "Other Voices" took midwest regional gold award for Best Column by a Contributor. The columns cited were the June edition, "Could Cyber Terrorists Attack Our Company?" (www.controlglobal.com/articles/2010/CyberTerrorism1006.html), and the October edition, "The Can of Worms Is Open. Now What?" (www.controlglobal.com/articles/2010/StuxnetWorm1010.html), both written by John Cusimano of exida and Eric Byres of Byres Security.
Control's Associate Art Director, Brian Hertel, won a regional gold award for Best Cover, Illustration for his November 2010 cover, "Big-Time Condition Monitoring" (www.controlglobal.com/issues/2010/ 017.html).
It's much too early for any 2011 awards, but already, Hertel's July cover, "Tribal Knowledge," (www.controlglobal.com/issues/2011/July-2011.html), is getting considerable attention. Steve Armstrong, director of calibration services,at Troemner LLC, Thorofare, N.J., said this: "When the fourth person who saw the July issue of Control sitting in my inbox [commented on the cover] I told myself I would write to congratulate you. Since then, I moved the issue to a small work table, and about four more people have picked it up. The cover is definitely what got everyone's attention. Anyway, congrats on a job well done—cover and article."
