GE's Emergency Response Program assist electrical contractors, engineers, maintenance personnel and distributors who are helping customers impacted by Hurricane Sandy. What GE is doing, is providing customers with access to 24/7 phone and on-site service support, fast hotline product ordering and expedited equipment delivery of GE's comprehensive solutions for reliable power, including distribution transformers, critical power components and software analytics.
The program consist of GE's Industrial Solutions and Digital Energy businesses launching special websites. These websites provide distributors and end-users different resources and guidelines to help them evaluate and handle water-damaged electrical equipment.
GE has also ramped up production to ensure their distribution channels have the key products they need to best serve their customers. The company is also providing monthly financing options to customers who need to retrofit or replace backup power equipment.
Last week, GE deployed field service engineers to the impacted areas. The experienced personnel is helping the local teams assess damages quicker. They are also able to make recommendations for the best possible solutions that can restore power to the area as soon as possible.
According to Bob Gilligan, CEO of GE's Industrial Solutions business, the teams set in place will ensure that GE's customers get their electrical infrastructures up and running again. "We have resources to fully support our distribution channels. GE is committed to helping our customers restore power safely across the Eastern seaboard," said Gilligan.
GE's suite of grid modernization technologies provides utilities with real-time knowledge of the grid and its performance. Data analytics and visualization technologies also deliver knowledge that helps identify which customers are without power and enables utilities to provide proactive communications. GE's electrical distribution component offerings include panelboards, circuit breakers, switchboards, low- and medium-voltage equipment, distribution transformers and motor control centers.
In addition to the customer support, GE also has donated $1.1 million to support relief and recovery: $1 million was given to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and $100,000 dollars was given to the United Way of America.
