As winner of the 2012 competition, Bocciardo attended the full three-day conference and had the opportunity to present his winning ideas to all of Honeywell's EMEA customers and partners. In addition, Bocciardo's professor and project advisor; Stefano Brandani, was able to choose a training course for himself or a colleague at his nearest Honeywell world-class automation college.

Bocciardo's winning entry focused on the use of UniSim-based simulation to model membrane separation applied to the post-combustion capture of carbon dioxide, as an alternative to the conventional method of solvent-based capture.
