exida awards Magnetrol International's Eclipse Model 705 Guided Wave Radar Transmitter as Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 capable per IEC 61508.

SIL certification is obtained through analysis based on quantitative data and tests indicating the length of time between failures and expected performance in the field. A Failure Mode Effect and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) confirmed that the Magnetrol ECLIPSE Model 705 has demonstrated a solid field use history, includes sound engineering processes and is designed with capable self-diagnostics.

According to Bob Botwinski, ECLIPSE Product Manager, the exida certificate gives their customers confidence that the product is applicable to safety critical applications.

"As important, in the past, reliability was measured by MTBF or similar types of calculations," said Botwinski. "Today, reliability is measured by conformance to IEC 61508, and having achieved certification to this standard, the Magnetrol ECLIPSE Model 705 is recognized at the highest level of reliability based on its performance."
