Over 100 Killed in China Slaughterhouse Fire
BBC reports that over 119 people have died in a fire in Dehui, Jilin Province China that began apparently in a changing room. Reports of the cause are sketchy yet, but include a possible electrical fault. BBC reports that the front gate of the plant, and all but one of the factory doors, were locked at the time of the fire, and quotes a Chinese firefighter as saying that the interior construction of the building made rescue efforts difficult.
Just as in the US and Western Europe, you can pass safety laws and worker protection statutes but you can't make management stop putting profits over people's safety and you can't stop corruption.
