The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) version of ANSI/ISA-18.2-2009, Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries, has been published as IEC 62682.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) version of ANSI/ISA-18.2-2009, Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries, has been published as IEC 62682.

The standard addresses the development, design, installation and management of alarm systems in the process industries. Alarm system management includes multiple work processes throughout the alarm system lifecycle. The standard defines the terminology and models to develop an alarm system, and the work processes recommended to effectively maintain the alarm system throughout the lifecycle.

The publication represents the latest in a collaboration by which many original ISA standards have been adopted as IEC global standards in vital areas, including industrial cybersecurity (ISA99), enterprise-control system integration (ISA95), batch process control (ISA88), and process safety (ISA84).

ISA18 co-chairs Donald Dunn and Nick Sands led the IEC work as convenor and secretary/editor, respectively.  The work was conducted under IEC SC 65A, Systems Aspects of Industrial Process Measurement, Control and Automation.
