Big UPS handles industrial operations

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
The Galaxy 4000 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) meets the power demands of critical data centers and industrial facilities. Available in 40, 50, 65 and 75kVA online double-conversion models, the UPS  eliminates input harmonics from utility-supplied power, corrects the input through power factor correction, and regulates voltage during surge conditions. Prices start at $35,000.

For applications requiring extended runtimes, users can add additional battery banks to the Galaxy. For example, the 40kVA Galaxy UPS with four battery cabinets will protect connected systems for more than two hours during a power outage. Since batteries have proven to be a weak link in any UPS system, MGE has incorporated advanced battery management into the new Galaxy 4000 series. Through automated load testing of the batteries, the UPS can quickly determine precise battery performance parameters and alert operators to any irregularities before they have a chance to affect the UPS performance. In addition, automatic predictive failure analysis of the batteries allows users to know exactly when they should replace their batteries.

The Galaxy 4000 series easily interfaces with the industry's leading universal communication protocols and incorporates four communication slots that can support SNMP, J-Bus/ModBus, TCP/IP and (RS232-RS485) protocols for easy interfacing with most devices.

Operating with MGE's inclusive Solution-Pac power management software, the Galaxy 4000 can gracefully control and shutdown multiple servers over the network. In addition, the Galaxy can be programmed to issue server shutdown commands via XML tags when MGE's “webi-card” is installed.

The UPS's front-panel LCD display offers easy-to-understand measurements and diagnostic messages as well as an LED mimic diagram. In addition, password protected personalization menus provide the ability to specify modes of operation, warning thresholds for battery operation, and other customer tailored features. All UPS parameters and customization menus are available at the touch of a button.

For turnkey installation and integration, MGE's newly formed Infrastructure Services provides customers with complete installation, integration, maintenance and 24/7/365 remote monitoring services. As an additional monitoring option, MGE offers its PowerSentinel service that gives users immediate access to their UPS systems' power status via a secure Web site that is also monitored continuously by MGE's Customer Care Center staff. Not only does this offer users a real-time view of their critical power from any remote location with Web access, it also assures that status is viewed at a diagnostic level by the same people that directly dispatch factory service engineers from 170 service centers worldwide.

The Data Center Grade Galaxy 4000 UPS is UL-1778 and cUL (Canada) approved and conforms to FCC Class A parts, 15 sub parts. The new Galaxy also meets ISO 9001 design and manufacturing standards. Available now, the Galaxy 4000 family pricing starts at $35,000and includes a one-year warranty.
