Emerson's Rosemount 2-Wire Non-Contacting Radar Level Transmitters
Emerson introduces Rosemount® 2-wire non-contacting radar level transmitters for safety instrumented systems
FMEDA report confirms Safety Integrity Level (SIL) suitability of Rosemount 5400 Series
AUSTIN, TEXAS (March 23, 2011) - Emerson Process Management announces that the Rosemount® 5400 Series of non-contacting radar level transmitters are now approved for safety instrumented systems. Following successful third-party evaluation, the 5400 Series now comes with the required Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) report. This means that companies in the oil & gas production, refining, petrochemical, chemical and power industries can benefit from the superior performance of radar technology, while ensuring compliance with the associated IEC industry standards.
The FMEDA report provides safety instrumentation engineers with the required failure rates per IEC 61508 and with proof test recommendations. With a longer proof test interval, the proof test can be co-ordinated with plant turnaround, minimizing process interruption.
The Rosemount 5400 Series (with 4-20 mA output) was evaluated in accordance with the hardware assessment IEC 61508 by the Technical Research Institute of Sweden (SP). The resulting FMEDA report, with Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) over 80%, shows SIL 1 suitability with a HFT (Hardware Fault Tolerance) of 0 or SIL 2 suitability with a HFT of 1 or with proven-in-use demonstration according to IEC 61511 (type B subsystem).
The Rosemount® 5400 Series is a 2-wire non-contacting radar for challenging level measurements on liquids and slurries. It uses the company’s 30 years of proven radar expertise and is designed to improve plant profitability through superior reliability, state-of-the-art safety features, effortless handling and unlimited connectivity.
Innovations such as Dual Port Technology, advanced surface tracking and condensation and dirt resistant antennas, make the Rosemount 5400 Series the most reliable 2-wire radar transmitters available. Featuring an enhanced capability to handle disturbing factors, longer measuring range and lower dielectrics, its robust design reduces costs and increases safety.
The 2-wire technology enables fast and inexpensive installation. With market leading user-friendly graphical interfaces with wizards, measure-and-learn functionality, suggestions for application-specific configuration and PlantWeb® functionality, the transmitter integrates easily into new or existing control systems. This, in addition to maintenance-free operation and advanced diagnostics, results in a quicker return on investment with overall improved uptime and enhanced safety.
The Rosemount 5400 now makes it possible to meet safety requirements while maintaining maximum plant availability and reducing lifecycle costs.
