How important is accurate thermal measurement?

Overview:

This White Paper demonstrates that for accurate thermal measurement, the advantage of higher resolution is that the range to the target can be increased, making for easier measurements from a distance.

INFRARED detector resolution is important for accurate thermal measurement. In fact, it's all about the maximum possible working distance. Until recently, most buyers of infrared imaging cameras had to make a budgeting choice between a low-resolution 160x120-pixel camera or no camera at all, but they soon learned they missed a lot at low-resolution. For the working thermographer, high-resolution allows a camera to work at a much greater distance from a target without loss of temperature measurement accuracy.
