Benchmarking for success in the pharmaceutical industry
Benchmarking gives automation professionals the opportunity to exchange non-competitive information and compare how we automated our batch processes with other users in the pharmaceutical industry.
By David J. Adler, Senior Engineering Consultant, Eli Lilly and Company
The pharmaceutical industry competes on many different levels, from product innovation to unique process operations. These are not acceptable areas of benchmarking because of trade constraints and potential conflicts of interest. Even though these constraints exist, many benchmarking opportunities allow the exchange of information. Batch standards, information integration, and computer validation are particular examples. Many forums exist that allow for the exchange of noncompetitive information, which can enhance operational excellence, optimization, and regulatory compliance. Benchmarking helps each of us make better business decisions for our companies.
