High Accuracy Batch Formulation and IBC Based Manufacturing Techniques
Overview:
The application of rigid Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) in batch processing of solids has substantially changed in recent years from simple storage and distribution vessels to being integrated into each step of the process, resulting in major improvements in manufacturing flexibility and reduced costs. This change has come about through the application of cone valve technology which enables fully automated, reliable, controlled and complete ‘mass-flow’ transfer of dry solids batches into and out of process without dust and without the need for operator intervention. From the traditional hand-crafted batch formulations with expensive mixers and inline packaging systems grows the need for maintenance free, automated, high-speed batch production where clean-down and formulation is taken off-line, removing these processes from production time. ‘Parallel Processing’ allows high accuracy batch formulation, efficient and flexible production with limited need for external dust control and protection against unwanted migration of allergenic materials. The batches may even be mixed within the IBC itself with in-bin blending, eliminating the need for mixer clean-down and the risk of cross-contamination between batches. This innovation allows for complete batch integrity, instant product changeover and more efficient, flexible production at a fraction of the capital and operating costs of previous methods.
