Operational Concept Document: A Process- Based Integration of Production IT Solutions in a Pharmaceutical Plant

Overview:

Pharmaceutical plants tend to increase the integration between their business systems and their control systems to improve their response to market requirements. A good combination of IT and process knowledge is required to achieve that integration in a cost-effective way. The operational concept document is a result of the analysis of the manufacturing process and the functions completed by the miscellaneous IT packages that bridge the gap between the pieces of equipment and the business systems. This presentation will describe the method used to perform this analysis and present the lessons learned through the application of that method in a secondary manufacturing plant greenfield project. Critical functions covered by the miscellaneous IT packages include resources planning, manufacturing execution, electronic batch records, recipe handling, supervisory control and data acquisition.
