Product RoundUp: Controllers get loopy

Sept. 2, 2015
Here’s a look at the hardworking controllers that closely monitor and manage all the single, multiple, closed and open loops crucial to maintaining their process applications.
Better view, easily replaced

YS1000 series single-loop controllers have a new TFT LCD screen with 1.5 times wider viewing angle, and improved display contrast and brightness that make them easier to read. YS1000 also can be replaced while the controller is online without interrupting the output of signals to control elements, so there’s no need to switch off the controller before replacing the display.

Temperature control in small spaces

Designed for applications with limited panel space and multiple zones to control, E5DC programmable temperature controller is just 22.5 mm wide and delivers functions of larger units in less space. Its large, bright, white display allows users to monitor each controller’s status without the typical multi-channel monitor. E5DC also has a two-piece design that allows mounting directly into a terminal block.

Many applications, one display

PAX 2C proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers have integrated FlexBus technology by inserting field-installable FlexCard modules, which allow users to populate PAX 2Cs in more than 150 configurations to monitor and control multiple application processes on one display. The FlexCard modules include process input/remote setpoint cards and heater current monitor cards.

Handles batch and continuous

Universal 535 ¼-DIN, single-loop, PID process controller monitors and controls temperature, pressure, level, flow and other analog variables. Available models provide an isolated analog (4-20 mA or 0-20 mA) control signal output used to regulate a control valve or final control element. Other models have alarm-trip outputs that can be used for on/off control or warn of unwanted high/low conditions.

Algorithm increases stability

Profit Loop incorporates PID algorithms, model-based advanced control and optimization to address loop-control needs. Its patented algorithm is part of Experion PKS, and it provides a single input/single output (SISO) model-predictive function block. Profit Loop uses a simple process model to predict the effect of past, present and future control moves, and can increase process stability by up to 30%.

Accelerating time to tune

Loop Tuning Accelerator Service, powered by ServicePort, reduces the time between diagnosing control loop issues and tuning loops to improve control performance. The service uses data already gathered, analyzed and stored to quickly identify issues, so corrective tuning can take place without time-consuming and disruptive bump tests.
