Can't we all just get along? If you're talking about plant floor engineers and corporate IT personnel, the answer often is a resounding "no." However, the usual economic forces have been flowing over this resistant organizational rock, and there's evidence that it too is beginning to wear down.

According to Maciej Krantz, vice president of Cisco's wireless business group, the agreement that Cisco made with Rockwell last April was really "only for wired networking." So, Cisco has decided to work with Emerson for wireless networking.

First, on the asset management front: Emerson Process Management has extended its PlantWeb Smart Machinery Health Monitoring capabilities to include turbomachinery protection. The offering meets the American Petroleum Institute's API 670 definition of industry best practices for turbomachinery protection.

Effectively saying they can do the same things that Apprion and Honeywell and Invensys have announced in the past three weeks, Cisco (from their press release) today announced a new mobility solution for the oil and gas industry, the Cisco First Mile Wireless solution.
