Process automation leaders grow and sign new deals

  • BP and Emerson Process Management have extended for 10 years their global agreement for Emerson to provide expanded automation technologies and aftercare services for BP’s upstream oil and gas operations, help ensure safe and competitive projects, and support BP’s Field of the Future program for enhanced operating efficiency and oil recovery.
  • ABB has acquired the remaining shares and become the sole shareholder of Sweden-based CGM AB, which provides modern control room design and ergonomic solutions for maximum operator effectiveness. The acquisition complements ABB’s portfolio with the latest technology for enhancing the control room environment, from optimized design to ergonomic solutions with advanced functionality and improved safety standards.
  • Rotork has acquired M&M Internationl Srl. The 30-year-old firm is based in Bergamo, Italy, and is a leading manufacturer of solenoid valves, air-actuated piston valves, automatic drain valves, connectors, coils and custom instruments used throughout flow-control industries.
  • Fluke is integrating its Raytek, Ircon, and Datapaq product lines into a new brand, Fluke Process Instruments, which is expected to improve communications and accelerate product innovation. The three lines include infrared sensors, line scanners, thermal imagers, and temperature-profiling systems.
  • Renishaw plc opened its new $31-million, 153,000-sq.-ft. Innovation Center in July at its headquarters near Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, U.K. The center provides added space to house R&D and corporate services staff, spectroscopy and laser calibration product lines, and demonstration, training and conference facilities. This first phase includes plans to expand by another 77,000 sq. ft., and its investment program also includes opening a new R&D operation at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.
  • KPA Unicon will deliver a 50 t/h steam boiler plant to the Vanderbijlpark Works of ArcelorMittal South Africa Ltd., including all process equipment, transportation to South Africa, all installation works, commissioning and training of the operational personnel. The plant will be fueled with blast-furnace and coke oven gas which are by-products from the iron making process, and natural gas can also be used as fuel.
  • GE announced plans Aug. 5 to enter the cloud services market with Predix Cloud, which is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) designed specifically for industrial data and analytics that can capture and analyze the unique volume, velocity and variety of machine data within a highly secure, industrial-strength cloud environment.
