In the past, this required the purchase and installation of software on a central server and on each user's PC or other device.
But now, there are cloud-based services that provide the same functionality, but at a lower cost and with much quicker deplolyment. For example, EMC's Documentum Capital Projects Express is cloud-based solution offered on a subscription basis, often referred to as Software as a Service (SaaS).
Users pay monthly fees based on the number of users and other requirements, and can quickly scale the service up or down to meet project demands. According to EMC, the product offers quicker collaboration, simplifed project management and accelerated deployment.
