Not content with swallowing up British company MTL, Cooper Industries quietly bought two other companies right after Christmas, including Omnex Controls, the British Columbia-based wireless firm. Unlike MTL, which appears headed for Cooper Crouse-Hinds, Omnex appears to have been bought for Cooper Bussmann. So now two divisions of Cooper have dueling wireless companies, because MTL of course, also owns Elpro, the Australian wireless giant. Owning two of the largest manufacturers of industrial wireless systems, with some of the longest track records around now gives Cooper Industries a significant play in the industrial wireless arena, especially in SCADA and process automation. There would be ye olde synergies in merging Omnex with Elpro, of course....
