Honeywell chosen to run at Qatar Vinyl Company

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Honeywell has announced it was selected to upgrade the process automation technology for Qatar Vinyl Company’s plant located in Mesaieed Industrial City near Doha, Qatar. QVC, a major petrochemical company, will migrate from its existing Honeywell TotalPlant Solution Systems to Honeywell’s Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS). This migration will enable QVC to enhance productivity and profitability at its plant.

“Our migration to a common Experion platform will address our previous operating system obsolescence and should result in a marked reduction in overall ownership and maintenance costs,” said Radhakrishnan Nair, Head of Automation and Instrumentation for QVC. “Honeywell has helped us to streamline our processes and hence allowed us to reap the benefits of efficient process control technology.”

QVC products are used by polyvinyl chloride, alumina, detergent and pulp and paper manufacturers. The plant will use Experion to manage the annual production of 220,000 metric tons of vinyl chloride monomer, 175,000 metric tons of ethylene dichloride and 580,000 metric tons of caustic soda.

“Migrating to Experion enables a more reliable platform, making operations simpler as the system works side-by-side with third-party interfaces and seamlessly integrates with non-Honeywell technology,” said Larry Perkins, regional general manager for Honeywell Process Solutions Middle East. “QVC will now be able to reduce the load on its control network, integrate most of its stand-alone control systems into Experion and have a better view of their operations. Overall, this migration will help QVC achieve greater plant efficiency and improved business performance.”
