Dow Wins Chinese Plastics Contract

Sinochem Quanzhou Petrochemical Co. Selects Dow's Unipol Polypropylene Process Technology for Its New 200-KTA Polypropylene Facility

Dow Basic Plastics, Midland, Mich., has announced that Sinochem Quanzhou Petrochemical Co. has selected Dow's Unipol Polypropylene Process Technology for its new 200-KTA polypropylene facility. The plant will be built in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China, and is expected to come on line in 2011.

The Quanzhou plant is the sixth polypropylene plant in China to license Unipol Polypropylene Technology from Dow Basic Plastics. The facility will mainly produce homopolymers. Products will be marketed in China and abroad.

Including the Sinochem Quanzhou Project, Unipol Polypropylene Technology will be used to produce almost 11 million metric tons of polypropylene per year, which will represent more than 17% of total global capacity.

Polypropylene is a versatile plastic used in packaging, durable goods, automotive parts, non-wovens, fibers, and consumer applications.
