Resource Guide: Weighing systems tip usefulness scale

June 20, 2016
Control's Monthly Resource Guide brings you the latest online resources on a variety of process control topics.

MULTI-PART WEIGHING

This four-section webpage by Omega Engineering covers "Weighing Applications," "Weighing System Design," "Installation and Calibration" and "Specialized Installations." The whole group is located at www.omega.com/literature/transactions/volume3/weigh3.html#specinst.

TOTALLY TANK WEIGHING

This 45-minute video, "Load cells for accurate, trouble-free tank weighing," provides a comprehensive look at understanding and applying load cells and weighing technology to tanks and other vessels. It's presented by Steve Watson, who is a member of the Sartorius Strike Team, which helps users solve complex tank and hopper weighing and level measurement problems. It's located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfSx1GCuZn8.

INTEGRATING PROCESS DATA

This six-page whitepaper by Mettler Toledo shows how to use information from process weighing systems. It explores weighing process integration challenges, and provides points to consider when defining operating boundaries and data objectives. Its introduction reports, "Efficient transfer of weighing process data to higher level MES or ERP systems can help make manufacturing processes more transparent. Increased transparency can improve asset use, reduce operating costs, and make complying with certification standards or industrial regulations easier. Weighing and communication solutions are more likely to meet objectives and produce measurable ROI when these points are taken into account." HEFTY WHITEPAPERS

The three whitepapers in Hardy Solutions' online library include "Five factors that can affect your weighing system's accuracy," "Which is better, three or four load points?" and "Reducing the total cost to own, integrate and develop weighing solutions into process manufacturing." Each is just a few pages, and only one requires registration. They're located at www.hardysolutions.com/media-center/white-papers/view.

LOAD CELLS AND MORE

In another informative entries, "Introduction to Load Cells" at the Omega Engineering website, covers the basic concepts of this traditional transducer technology, but then it also serves as a gateway to many other related topics, such as force gauges, tank and bin weighing hardware, strain gauges and others. It's located at http://www.omega.com/prodinfo/loadcells.html.

COMMISSIONING VESSEL SCALES

This 40-minute video, "Commissioning of Process Vessel Scales," is based on a webinar delivered by the Integrator Support Services department at Sartorius Intec. It's four sections include: check up of mechanical installation; setting the right parameters in the instrument; scale commissioning; and evaluating the need for calibration with weights. It's located at www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-aAWh880yg.
