I am at a cyberterrorism and law conference in San Antonio.

While preparing for my presentation a thought came to mind that dealt with the difficulty of getting spares. It is no secret that the US no longer makes many of the critical plant equipment such as transformers, turbines, etc. However, I believe it has been assumed that the US would be first in line for replacement equipment.

But if you look around, many other countries are buying much more industrial equipment than the US from countries such as China, etc. Consequently, if there were a catastrophic event that damaged large numbers of critical plant equipment, be it just in the US or also internationally, I do not believe the US can assume it will be first in line for spares.
