Electro Standards Laboratories researches ocean energy extraction

Aug. 7, 2008

Cranston, R. I., August 7 - Electro Standards Laboratories, a developer of advanced electric motor control systems , announced today that it has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award from the Office of Naval Research.

Electro Standards will use the funding from the Phase I STTR to develop and test small, affordable 100-200W power technology derived from ocean energy extraction. Sensor applications requiring energy will be located on a buoy. The motivation for the development of a buoy-based observatory is the need to acquire long-duration time series measurements of a variety of processes. It is anticipated that ocean energy extraction can serve as a power source for sensors.

Electro Standards Laboratories is a privately held company with expertise in electric motor systems, power electronics, control systems, digital signal processor-based electronics, mechanics, software programming, GPS and Web-enabled systems
