The ISA12 committee has approved a newly revised ISA-60079-15 standard specifying requirements for the construction, testing and marking for Group II electrical apparatus with type of protection, 'n' intended for use in Class I, Zone 2 hazardous locations. The revision is the U.S. adoption of IEC 60079-15:2005 (Edition 3) and more closely aligns U.S. requirements with those of IEC and ATEX and will, therefore, be particularly welcomed by equipment manufacturers.

ISA-60079-15 is applicable to both non-sparking electrical equipment and electrical equipment with parts capable of producing arcs or sparks or hot surfaces which, if not protected, could ignite a surrounding explosive gas atmosphere.
