There are two types of calibrations applicable to PRTs–characterization and tolerance testing. The type of calibration to perform is determined by the way in which the UUT is to be used and the accuracy required by the user. In the laboratory and depending upon customer's needs, it is required to perform both tests. PRT calibration procedures are similar whether the method selected is characterization or tolerance testing, but knowing what procedure to use can be tricky.
