August 2018 ISA Water/Wastewater conference observations

I gave a presentation at the ISA Water/Wastewater Conference August 9th in Bethesda. As with the other conferences I have attended, the other cyber security presentations were on the network which is necessary, but not sufficient.

I gave a presentation at the ISA Water/Wastewater Conference August 9th in Bethesda. There were numerous vendors of instrumentation for the water/wastewater industry. None had addressed cyber security of their process sensors. Actually, none had been asked about cyber security of their process sensors. As with the other conferences I have attended, the other cyber security presentations were on the network which is necessary, but not sufficient. Because there were many engineers attending, it was refreshing to see the nods that cyber incidents don’t have to be malicious to be important. Additionally, there appeared to be interest in the approach of monitoring the process as a means of reliability, safety, and security.
