Cyber Threats to Industrial Control Systems (ICS)

Oct. 4, 2009

There are many cyber threats to ICS beyond the traditional IT vulnerabilities. Phillip Hallam-Baker had the following response to Aurora and FUD in the SCADA listserver today (10/4):“…There is a huge difference between looking at a design and checking to see whether it will be safe when run within the intended design parameters and checking to see what happens when the environment is completely outside those assumptions.”  There have also been recent House hearings on EMP threats to the power grid. As a result, Mike Assante from NERC will lead an open discussion on the various cyber threats to ICS at the October 19th ACS Control System Cyber Security Conference.
