It comes from China!

May 18, 2009

I've been saying for years that the real threat to each of the large automation vendors isn't from another of the large automation vendors, but from previously unknown companies in China, India, Brazil, Russia, and other developing technology countries. For example, one of the ten largest magnetic flowmeter manufacturers is in China, and does not (yet) export. If they did export they would rapidly become one of the top FIVE magmeter vendors.

Chinese engineered products are finding homes in the rest of the world's automation applications. Advantech, a $600 million company based in Taiwan and what they call "Greater China" has been selling automation solutions outside China for decades. Forbes-Marshall, of India, has been designing flow products for other companies to private label for years. Chinese designed products often stand comparison with the best that North America and Western Europe can offer. Brazil has three companies that play on the global automation stage, SMAR, the control system integration division of the large consulting firm Accenture, and the sofware company Limeware that produces MOC software for the Foxboro I/A system.

So, why did I bring this up today? Because I received a press release from a Chinese company with information about their new smart valve positioner. The company is the Shenzhen Maxonic Automation Control Company, Limited. They have 25 offices in China, and a global distribution office in Hong Kong. I think we'll be seeing more from them.

Here's the release:
