The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming biotech and pharma manufacturing. The sensors, actuators and devices embedded in production equipment and networked through computer systems generate data that can be mined for insights—creating new opportunities to drive production efficiency, automate monitoring and controlling functions and enable flexible manufacturing systems.
Until recently, these benefits were only talked about in the future tense for the biotech and pharma industries—but IoT applications are here now. This paper explores four areas in biotech and pharma that benefit from the IoT, including the digitization of pneumatics, preventative maintenance, diagnostics and modular automation.
