Wytch Farm is Western Europe’s largest onshore oil field

Yokogawa UK has announced successful completion of the replacement of the control and safety systems at BP’s Wytch Farm facility in Dorset, U.K. Located in one of the most environmentally sensitive areas of the country, and with total estimated recoverable reserves of 480 million barrels, Wytch Farm is Western Europe’s largest onshore oil field. As much as 90% of the reserves lie in the Sherwood reservoir, making it the sixth largest in the UK. An integrated control and safety system based on Yokogawa’s Centum CS 3000-Vnet/IP DCS, ProSafe-RS safety system and Stardom network-based controllers acting as RTUs replaced the existing Emerson/Fisher Provox DCS, Servelec GEM80-based safety system, Honeywell FSC dual redundant PLC system, Eurotherm process automation controllers and Transmitton SCADA/RTU previously used to monitor and control the gathering and processing operations.
