80-GHz, tight beam for bulk measurement
LBR SicWave radar sensors handle dust and large measuring ranges with 80-GHz radar frequency, high dynamics and a tightly focused aperture angle. While conventional radar sensors with 6 GHz or 26 GHz frequencies have 10° to 15° aperture angles, LBR SicWave has a 3° aperture angle, which makes it comparable with a laser beam. This makes it easier to precisely align the sensor to the material surface without worrying about faults caused by interference from other installed equipment or deposits on walls.

Optiwave frequency-modulated, continuous-wave (FMCW) radar level transmitters have gained safety integrity level (SIL) level 2/3 certifications. This differentiates this range of 24 GHz and 80 GHz level radar transmitters, and expands the chemical and other applications in which they can operate. SIL 2/3 certifications attest that Optiwave meets EC 61508 SIL standards for hardware and systematic safety integrity. SIL 2 systems must function as required 99% of the time or better, while SIL 3 systems must work reliably 99.9% of the time.
