May 25, 2018
Multitalented level measurement devices are overcoming all kinds of obstacles, harsh settings and hazards
1-mm accuracy from narrow beam

Micropilot FMR6x 80-GHz, free-space radar level instrument has a 3° beam angle that can measure level at up to 410 feet with ±1 mm accuracy, making it suitable for use in tanks or silos with complex geometries, obstacles, baffles and/or nozzles. Its process connection, as small as 3/4 in., allows installation in tanks with small process connections, in tall nozzles, and through ball valves. Its antenna resists sticky buildup and condensation. Built-in mapping performs false echo suppression, easing commissioning.

Silicon sensors for precision

FCX level transmitters have micro-capacitance silicon sensors for precise measurements of liquid levels, pressure, differential pressure and fluid flow. They achieve 0.2% accuracy as standard, and cover 0.32 kPa (3.2 mbar) to 500 kPa (5 bar) differential pressure range with micro-capacitance silicon sensors. With a full range of hazardous area approvals such as ATEX, TIIS and FM, built-in RFI filter and lightning arrester and five-digit LCD meter, FCX provide exceptional performance for various process applications.

Switches for problem powders

CL-10 G Series level detectors handle precipitated and fine, lightweight chemical powders with bulk density as low as 1 lb/ft3, which keeps them accurate and consistent in dusty environments and applications that can bridge and “pack-out,” such as food products (12x to silk sugar) and heavier bulk solids in the 10-15 lbs/ft3 range. Specialized units can serve in temperatures exceeding 300 °F. CL-10 G level detectors are factory calibrated, and are approved for Class I, Group D; Class II, Groups E, F & G; and Class III services.

Repeatability in sticky situations

Model 7014 high-viscosity, liquid level sensor has proprietary conductive technology for monitoring viscous, water-based liquids, and features an electrically sensitive probe surface with no moving parts or floats. Model 7014 also has a wetted area made of non-stick fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), and its smooth sensing surface can differentiate between immersion in thick liquids and air at the top of a tank or container to calculate liquid levels. Its sensor can be mounted in an inverted orientation with no impact on accuracy.

Patented magnetic indicator

1100 Series magnetic level gauge has a Vista lenticular lens indicator with an ultra-wide viewing angle that recently received U.S. Patent No. 9638565B2. Vista uses a curved polycarbonate lens with flattened ridges on the inside, so light enters through the front, reflects off the colored flippers, and is redirected in all directions by the patented lens, allowing for a 200° viewing angle that's reported to be the industry's largest, eliminating the need for armored sight-glass devices.

Two trios of 24-, 80-GHz transmitters

Optiwave two-wire, loop-powered, FMCW radar level transmitters have added three 24-GHz (5400/6400/7400 models) and three 80-GHz devices (3500/6500/7500 models). Optiwave's connections start at ¾ in. They have lens, drop and horn antennas. Their measuring range is up to 100 m (328 ft.) from antenna edge with accuracy of ±2 mm (±0.08 in.). Optiwaves can measure products with dielectric constants as low as 1.4.

Infrared laser for reflections

OptioLaser S300 liquid laser uses infrared 905 nanometer (nm) technology to detect all types of liquids, regardless of their dielectric properties. Its narrow beam divergence measures through grates and narrow passages, and even next to flat walls. OptioLaser S300 uses an infrared, low-gain GaAs laser diode with light energy of 905 nm; operates without the need of any calibration; is unaffected by background noise and vapor pressure; and handles low dielectric substances and acoustically absorbent materials.

Hawk Measurement Systems

Safe magnetic level

KM26 magnetic level gauges are custom engineered to meet ANSI/ASME B31.1, B31.3 requirements, and offer continuous total and/or interface level indication for a variety of liquids, including corrosive, flammable and toxic materials in industries such as oil and gas, chemical and power generation. Integrating it into the range of reliable level transmitters and point level switches provides one platform that's reported to save money and space, reduce weight, minimize leaks and increase safety.
