Enrique Santacana, CEO of ABB Inc. led a round of applause for the end user council, and described APWORLD as ABB's largest gathering in the world-- over 5000 attendees, 1000 solution partners and mo than 40 media representatives and analysts.

2011 was a year of unprecedented events, he said. Beginning with the tsunami in Japan, the Arab Spring and the Eurozone financial crisis. We are experiencing China's slowing growth, and the unthinkable with the USA losing its triple A bond rating. Shale gass as a game changer, and we still have no clear direction on energy policy. Last, is the economic uncertainty caused by the failure ofw the US budget "super committee."

But do not panic. For those of us in automation and power, there is a robust business climate in 2012 and beyond.

--industrial productivity
--grid reliability, transmission congestion, aging infrastructure
--exponential growth in data driven processes
--energy efficiency

Growth:
Thomas and Betts closing by end of Q2
Synergies from Ventyx and Baldor

Investments:
Smart grid center of excellence
HV cable factory opens in Sept
Investment in companies

Joe Hogan gives the keynote-- we are very excited about North America, the world's largest market. Here are some Thomas and Betts products...a 3.9 billion transaction.

Highly complementary product lines will accelerate wins in cross selling. In NA, THE BEST product doesn't always win...you need great products that are aligned with a great distribution system... ABB will ANSIfy and NEMAfy the low voltage products to introduce the low voltage products into the NA market.

Sales are up 72% since 2008.

100 million in investments like Trilliant, Industrial Defender,  And others.

w voltage drives.
Energy efficiency in industries-- saved 260gw in 2011 with l

DC on board will cut carbon emissions in ships...

Motors use 40% of electricity in the US...replacing with low voltage drives will save 40bn dollars per year.

ABB grid solutions solve challenges. We never got out of grids. Second revolution of electrification, digital information...this requires new solutions.

Data centers are critical for modern economies.
They are just at the beginning of innovation.

Capacitive power storage, battery storage

Petrochemicals...there's a phase change. Fracking is changing the energy posture of the US. Deepsea compression project is a critical step to the subsea factory.

Lead automation supplier on Sadara project in Saudi Arabia .

ABB can be the main electrical or main automation contractor and save lots of money.

Symphony Plus grew significantly.
Robots are fun! As America reindustrializes there will be a different kind of work and much different automation.

NPS: Very serious

Service in North America-- growing and -adding value with software tool.

Being thr first with new value proposition for customers--disruptive technologies like FACTS (no. 9 on IEEE list)

Comprehensive solutions for North America. ABB believes in US and NA industry.
