Exchange Board Member Steve Elwart from Ergon Corp. sent me this after I admitted to being a NASCAR fan. WHY IS ERGON SPONSORING A RACE CAR? The rest of the story.. For the last two or three years we have been wanting to be develop a polymer modified asphalt specifically geared to the NASCAR market. We began working with a group of NASCAR consultants specific to track construction and reconstruction. Previously we have been involved in a motorcycle/Lemans track in Birmingham along with some parking perimeter paving in Kansas City, but had not made it on the track until Talladega with the exception of our CRAFCO products. Our lab (Paragon) developed the formula and ultimately our facilities in Vicksburg, Memphis and Birmingham were all called in to meet the project demands to completion. A specially designed PG 82-22 polymer modified asphalt was produced with an exceptionally high softening point. Kyle Cook, our Area Sales Manager in Birmingham stayed with the project and kept everyone coordinated. The project is complete!!! We have heard that the drivers that have been on the track have made statements to the effect that it is the best reconstruction in the history of NASCAR! Pretty cool! Now back to the car. We have a customer in Tallahassee by the name of Mitchell Brothers Paving. They have been a 100% customer since we have been in business in Bainbridge, Georgia. Eddie Mitchell, President has a son Marc, who has been driving stock cars since he was old enough to do so. And I might add has been pretty successful in doing so, his resume is attached. Marc has just graduated from Auburn and has joined his dad in the business. His goal is to drive in NASCAR and the NASCAR folks say he definitely has the ability. It will just take right time, right place. Finally, Eddie Mitchell approached us about co-sponsoring with him Marc¹s car for the October 6th ARCA race at Talladega. This will be the first race on the new pavement. We have agreed to a one shot co-sponsorship for the race. Tune your camcorders and DVD in and let¹s hope we see Mark and the number 34 Ergon car grab the checkered flag. Thanks! P.S. Our customer who did the actual paving at Talladega, Sunmount Corporation out of Roanoke, Texas is leaving Talladega and going to Fontana, California to pave the track there. They have asked us to be their supplier there as well and we will from our Las Vegas facility.
