I have been informed I will be receiving the 2012 ISA Power Industry (POWID) Division Service Award at the June ISA POWID Symposium. ISA POWID is the international standards organization for power plant instrumentation and control systems. The note I received stated: "On behalf of the Power Industry Divisions (POWID) Executive Committee, I wish to congratulate you on being awarded the 2012 POWID Division's Service Award. Your work and support for the power industry is greatly appreciated and is now being recognized by your peers within the ISA Power Industry Division. Although we had previously honored you by awarding you our Achievement Award in 1992, it's a shame it took this long to recognize you for all of the services you have provided thru the years both to the Society and our Division." I also will be giving a plenary presentation at the ISA POWID Symposium June 5th in Austin.
On the electric transmission and distribution side, I have been asked by the IEEE Education Society to participate in the IEEE FOCUS initiative. This will consists of preparing a set of tutorials on Smart Grid CONTROL SYSTEM Cyber Security. This will fill in the gap that is missing on control systems.
On Friday, I received my copy of the book, Cyber Security Policy Guidebook (ISBN: 978-1-118-02780-6), coauthored by Dr. Jennifer Bayuk, Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, Jason Healey, Director of the Cyber Statecraft Initiative at the Atlantic Council, Dr. Paul Rhomeyer, Director of the Technology Information Management Program at Stevens Institute, Marcus Sachs, Vice President of National Security Policy at Verizon, Jeffrey Schmidt a cyber security technology entrepreneur, and myself. This book is intended to give students, scholars, and technical decision-makers the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions on cyber security policy.
