Why the ACS Conference doesn’t allow remote attendance

Oct. 15, 2009
The operating guideline for the ACS Control System Cyber Security Conference is you have to attend in order to get the presentation material. I had a conversation with a colleague who will not be able to attend but wanted to get the information. He asked why I don’t use a similar approach to Dale Peterson’s S4 Conference for remote attendees. There is a difference in the type of material addressed. I have been “fortunate” enough to have people who have actually had their control systems impacted by cyber to speak.

I have been “fortunate” enough to have people who have actually had their control systems impacted by cyber to speak. Two of those presentations dealt with malicious targeted attacks against control systems (neither was Maroochy). If the presentations were on video or made available to non-Conference attendees, I would not be able to get these people to speak. To me, it is more important to have these people speak than it is to get the additional revenue from non-conference attendees. Joe Weiss
