This report comes as no surprise, really, but it's nice to have one's suspicions confirmed. Wireless is nowhere near jumping the shark yet. This report on the EMEA markets predicts that shipments of wireless-enabled factory automation devices are set to increase from 2.7 million worldwide in 2007 to almost 8 million in 2013. This in spite of the current rottem economic climate and the internicine squabbling over standards here in the US. To me it feels like covering the InterTubes in 1996-7--in spite of the naysayers and some legitimate concerns about the technoology, we're no longer really discussing if wireless for factory automation is a legitmate strategy, but when and for how much of the operation.
