Starting off the session was Tanya Tralka, wo noted that last year, she was working for Occidental and making chlorine... This year, she's working for Hershey and making chocolate! That's....wait for it... "Adapting to Change"... which is the theme of the Honeywell User Group this year. Tanya did the obligatory safety note and went through the agenda. Next, big boss Roger Fradin, president of Automation and Control Systems gave the obligatory rah-rah speech celebrating another year of double-digit growth. Then Fradin poured some more flame on the Wireless War by claiming that Honeywell was "driving the standard for industrial wireless." And this, after Herman Storey from Shell had just finished telling me that the SP100 meetings went well last week and that it looked like the war was dying down. Fradin went on to talk about Honeywell's extended wireless capabilities from the security and building automation divisions and noted Honeywell's unique status as the owner of a group of working chemical plants that they can use as full scale test beds. Heinz Janiec, of Shell prepared us for his "Chermann" accent by showing the hysterical Berlitz commercial about the German Coast Guard. ("Help! We are sinking!" "Vell, vat are you sinking about?") Janiek went on to give the UIS report. Through release 10, there have been 168 items. In the future releases, R11-R133 there will be more than 25 more items of direct benefit to the end users.
