Katrina Aid from Siemens...

Dear Walt, I've received several inquiries about how Siemens is supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief effort and wanted to pass along some information. Following is a link to a press release: http://www.usa.siemens.com/index.jsp?sdc_p=fmlsuo1306080ni1306073pc194z3&sdc_sid=23178209222& Service and Material Support from Siemens USA to the Affected Areas: US Filter is standing by with 5 water clarification trailers, each capable of clarifying/purifying 1,000 gallons of water a minute, as well as disinfection equipment. They are awaiting directions from the government as to where to send them. Siemens Building Technologies is shipping generators from Florida to the area to support hospitals in the affected region. Siemens Communications is working with Southern Company to deploy 420 IP phones in emergency crew command trailers using satellite broadband back to Atlanta. The phones will provide full access to the entire Southern Co network. Siemens Medical is providing portable imaging equipment to the Astrodome in Houston which is being prepared as the major refugee facility for victims of the Hurricane. Med is also responding to requests for heart monitors in the affected region. Siemens Power Generation is airlifting engineers into the area to assist utilities with damage assessment and to plan for rebuilding efforts. Aid from Siemens Employees to Colleagues in Affected Areas: In response to the desire of employees to be of help, direct aid from employees around the country is being coordinated through Siemens Caring Hands to help employees who are displaced or otherwise personally affected by the disaster . A hot line number has been established for affected employees to advise Siemens of their needs. These requests for specific assistance, such as housing and basic needs, are being listed on the Caring Hands web site and communicated by the intranet blog to allow other employees an opportunity to respond and provide help. Matches of requests for and offers of help are being coordinated by Caring Hands staff and volunteers. Additionally, Siemens Energy and Automation has launched a program to help its affected channel partners cope with the devastation by providing cash flow relief. The program will extend payment terms on existing accounts receivable balances and any replenishment stock orders from distributors in the impacted area. Please contact me with any questions.
