COPA launches open, O-PAS aligned control system

Aug. 5, 2021

The Coalition for Open Process Automation (COPA) announced July 1 the launch of its COPA QuickStart open, secure industrial control system (ICS), which is aligned with the Open Process Automation Standard (O-PAS) developed by the Open Process Automation Forum (OPAF). It's scheduled to be available in 3Q21.

COPA includes Collaborative Systems Integration (CSI), CPlane.ai, Phoenix Contact, R. Stahl, Supermicro, Nova Smar S/A and Codesys Group. The group reports its partners engineered COPA QuickStart to incorporate components from multiple vendors into one ICS that lets users learn, prove and adopt open architectures.

“Industrial manufacturers have repeatedly told me that if O-PAS Standard aligned systems were available, they would buy them," says Don Bartusiak, president of CSI and co-chair of OPAF. "COPA QuickStart is our answer to that challenge.”

COPA QuickStart system includes:

  • Pre-packaged ICS aligned with O-PAS;

  • Fusion management software from CPLane.ai, which uses Intel Edge Controls for Industrial software;

  • Advanced computing platform from Supermicro, which is powered by Intel Xeon D processors in a 1U chassis;

  • Advanced digital abilities such as fast-cycle model-predictive control (MPC), reinforcement learning control, artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity; and

  • Hands-on training modules that give users a deeper understanding of control systems and their value.
