Krohne has organized a series of free education and training seminars at five locations in the U.K. under the banner of "Krohne Academy 2011," with the subtitle "Process Measurement and Automation Control in Practice," in collaboration with some other European/German suppliers: Hima-Sella, Samson Controls and Phoenix Contact. The line-up was completed with a guest speaker from SIRA.
Similar events organised by Krohne also toured several German centers during March this year. Pitched as an educational, vendor-neutral event, the presentations were focused on measurement and control, functional safety (SIL) and custody transfer systems. The major topic, functional safety and plant safety systems, was covered in the U.K. series by all the companies and discussed in the lectures presented in two of the four streams available. Presentations in the other streams covered the areas of specific interest to the five suppliers, such as control valves, level and flow measurement, and plant interfaces and communications.
The Krohne Academy in Reading in March, the second in the series, was undoubtedly a success. Attendance was good, at maybe 40 on the day, after discounting the no-shows previously registered. The third event, scheduled for later the same week, was bigger, with 100 delegates listed to attend in Chester, for industries and customers in the U.K. Northwest. In June, three further events are scheduled in Middlesbrough and Aberdeen.
